Compassionate Mind Training & 5Rhythms Workshop
with Chia-Ying Chou & Vehllia Tranne
for caregivers: you who take care of others
This workshop is dedicated to those of us who identify as a caregiver in our personal and/or professional life: we can be a parent, a teacher, a therapist, coach, or physician, a light worker, a community leader, a business owner or manager, a volunteer, a caregiver for a loved one…or other roles that serve others.
This is one of the first workshops incorporating elements of Compassion Focused Therapy
(Compassionate Mind Training) and 5Rhythms.
5Rhythms is a map, a process, a sequence of sounds and movements that starts with Flowing, the discovery and deepening of ourselves, the embodiment of what is truly inside our system. The determination and outward expression of Staccato change the focus of our dance to the center of our hips and the building up of fire and passion. Chaos breaks all patterns. The intention revealed in the first rhythm mixed with the strength built on the second rhythm will be wildly mixed in an uncontrolled release of what is getting in the way of our journey. Lyrical is a celebration of renewed clarity and the expressive realization of our lightness of being. To arrive at Stillness where the breath and silence are the perfect completion to our destination for our unique
intentions.
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) is a psychotherapy approach integrating knowledge and techniques from Western psychological studies with Eastern Buddhist philosophy and body/mind practices. Compassionate Mind Training – the application of key concepts and practices of CFT outside of the therapy contexts has been shown to promote different aspects of well-being across diverse populations. This workshop will introduce the evolutionary perspective on the human brain and how this relates to psychological and behavioral difficulties. We will also learn about the three affect-regulation systems linked to threat awareness and coping, reward and resource seeking, and contentment and soothing, and how they form complex patterns within the mind.
Instruction will include compassion-focused imagery exercises and somatic practices that help us cultivate a compassionate self-to-self relationship.

Chia-Ying Chou, Ph.D., is the Founder and Director of the San Francisco Center for Compassion Focused Therapies (@SFCompassion) - a group psychotherapy practice and training hub for Compassion Focused Therapy. As a psychotherapist, Chia-Ying specializes in working with clients experiencing challenges related to trauma, hoarding, and other forms of difficulty in letting go. Her warmth and compassion promote safeness which is needed for vulnerability and healing. Her approach to caregiving and life, in general, is largely influenced by her Zen Buddhist and 5Rhythms practice.
